Cattle

There is no such thing as the perfect cow, just the perfect cow for your context.

Our cattle are a low-input, maternally-focused, heat-adapted Angus-based herd. The foundation of our herd were progeny of cattle pre-existing on our land which allowed us to begin with epigenetics suited for our context. We focus on the traits that lead to profitability. Without profitability we are not sustainable. Fertility: A cow must raise a calf to weaning within our program every year. Then breed back on time. Longevity: A cow must have sound legs, udder, and structure to travel and forage within our system for years. Profit margin dictates it takes multiple calves raised before the cow has paid her way. Adaptability: A cow must adapt, as we must, with changing land bases, forage types, and schedules. We don’t prop our cattle up with unnecessary inputs that don’t make sense financially. We believe God created cows to convert forage to protein through a rumen. We supply quality forage, clean water, and minerals to make up for what our land lacks and let the cow do the rest.
